Powerful Little Item - Canon Powershot Digital Camera Review

by Lillian Johnson

I'm still playing with it and learning all the options but I highly recommend the camera. It does all that it says it does; it is compact and burly. I want a camera that is not going to fill up every time we take it to the beach. I have been over and over the instruction manual trying to figure out if we are doing something wrong and I am coming up with nothing. Only caution I have is that the camera has limited capability in low light conditions. It's best to bring along a full size camera if you are shooting in low light or at least use a steady rest for the Stylus Tough. This is a handy feature I appreciate, but if I am taking fast moving action shots, this feature can be turned off in shooting menu 2, "REC VIEW." Once performed in accordance with the manual, photos can be taken immediately after one another. The camera leaked.

Consider that it is a point and shoot. I don't think that you can get much better for under $300. Pictures were dark, shutter speed slow...the first day. I thought let me give it a chance and play around with it.

This is my 4th digital camera in the past 10 years. I am no fool. As somewhat of a skilled photographer I am unfortunately very disappointed in this camera. The screen has good clarity when taking pictures and video; however, after taking a still shot, the image looks blurry on the screen, leaving you with no idea if the actually image is clear.

I gave it 4 stars because of omitted support materials. Really nice camera, I bought it for my brother in law. Although I have retired that particular camera from active duty, it is still in use today with my youngest using it for school projects and such. I have purchased two others since then, both 10 MP models and they are performing flawlessly.

It is simple to use (logical menus really help), takes great pictures, and best of all it is armored. There aren't any parts that stick out to get sand in, and when not in use it protects the lens with a cover. The biggest issue for me - the internal lenses fogged, leaving me photo impaired for the remainder of a vacation in Central America. I will not buy another Olympus.

However, I needed a waterproof camera for work, and this ended up being the only one available immediately in town. I am glad it was. This camera was for that trip, the beach and the pool. Unfortunately we took some pictures this summer in the pool.
