I would absolutely recommend this camera. This camera takes pretty good quality photos.
It seems easy to use. I have not read the manual yet, but I will do it before going snorkeling.
It is by far one of the best little point and clicks that I have had and I have had at least 5 in the past 5 years. It's built well and has an exceptional battery life (275 picks per charge on average with 14 MP pictures) and the recharge is fairly quick. My vacation was altered by the fact that the camera didn't do what it said it could do and I will never be able to capture some of the memories I lost due to a defective product. As it stands now, Olympus has lost my patronage for any of their products in the future. Manual or computer panoramic mode is better. If someone is interested, I could send some pictures (outdoor or underwater).
My rating does not reflect the camera itself, just the fact that Olympus apparently decided to ignore a significant and growing percentage of their market, Mac users. I expect more from Olympus.
The factory does make errors. This is actually my 2nd one I had some water leaking issues with the 1st one and Olympus was very easy to work with in resolving my issue. There is a funny sound emitted on playback. I read a review of the 8010 and it had the same issue. I bought this camera to replace my beloved Casio EX-V8 which was dropped one time too many. I am a casual user and like to take pictures and videos of the kids.
I bought this camera to take on vacation. I had planned on using it primarily as a video camera because I have a good Canon DSLR.
The 720p HD video looks awesome, especially on your HD TV. No issues with this camera. This camera has got to be the most unintuitive point and shoot I've ever seen or used. I don't even care about the image quality, even if it were outstanding, the interface and poor design would steer me away.
I suggest taking the time to read the manual and follow it. This will help me take good pictures were my Rebel can't be taken (rain forest, underwater) I recently ordered this camera for my wife. We have used it 5 or 6 times now and we are really beginning to love how easy it works, as well as the features.
